Barcelona have officially announced that they have extended the contract of young midfielder Marc Bernal until June 2029.

A statement from Barcelona read: "The club and the player Marc Bernal have reached an agreement to extend his contract until June 2029." The contract was signed on Monday morning at the club's offices in the presence of president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafael Juste and sporting director Deco. Bernal, one of the brightest talents at La Masia, impressed coach Hansi Flick in training last season and was promoted to the first team. However, after just three games of the season, he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and was ruled out for more than a year. Barcelona had agreed to extend his contract until he turned 18, and the renewal has now been made official.

Bernal recently returned from injury and made a brief appearance in the match against Valencia. The club is cautiously reintroducing the player and he is expected to play a bigger role in Flick's plans as the season progresses.
