Michael Carrick shared his thoughts after Manchester United lost 2–1 away to Newcastle United in the 29th round of the Premier League.
According to reports, this defeat was the first loss under Carrick, coming in his eighth match in charge.
The coach admitted he was disappointed with his team’s performance:
“We are not satisfied with our performance today. In many situations we had the initiative, but we also have to give credit to Newcastle. We knew it would not be easy. During the match we had a moment we needed to take advantage of, but we failed to do so. That is very disappointing for me. We performed below expectations. Newcastle deserved the win. I don’t like saying it, but it’s the truth. We have to return to work and prepare better for the next match.”
One of the key moments of the match was that Manchester United played with a numerical advantage from the 45th minute, yet they were unable to avoid defeat.
Manchester United currently sit third in the Premier League table with 51 points from 29 matches.
