Real Betis star Antony issued a heartfelt apology to the club’s supporters en route to departing the pitch this evening.

This comes after the Brazilian picked up a late red card against Girona.

Betis were back in action a short time ago, welcoming lowly Girona to the Estadio La Cartuja for a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, the Verdiblancos were forced to settle for a disappointing share of the spoils, in a 1-1 stalemate.

And adding to the woes of Manuel Pellegrini’s troops was a late dismissal.

Whilst attempting an overhead kick, the aforementioned Antony accidentally connected with the face of an opponent.

Following a VAR check, it was decided that the former Manchester United man’s challenge was worthy of a straight red card.

Antony will in turn be suspended for next weekend’s El Gran Derbi showdown with Sevilla.

And though the general sentiment appears to be that the attacker was hard done by in being dismissed, he nevertheless felt it necessary to issue an apology to the Real Betis crowd:
