Chelsea suffered a blow against Manchester United when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off, raising fresh doubts over their options between the posts.
Although the Spaniard will only sit out the Carabao Cup clash with Lincoln City, the setback has reopened talk of the Blues reviving their pursuit of AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.
Maignan, whose deal at San Siro runs out next year, will be free to negotiate with clubs outside Italy from January. Chelsea could look to move quickly, securing a pre-contract to beat rivals to his signature before bringing him in for free next summer. Enzo Maresca is said to be an admirer of the Frenchman and believes he would be a perfect fit for his system.
