UEFA have suspended Athletic Club defender Yeray Alvarez after he tested positive for doping during the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United.

The governing body stressed that Alvarez did not intentionally dope, but mistakenly ingested his wife’s preventive hair loss medication.

The ban has been backdated to June 2, ruling him out until April 2. He will be allowed to resume training with the team from early February.
